Logo Comparison 2 questions

1) One is bold and really jumps out at you. The Other is very light font and is hard to see.
2) The design issue is that you cannot see the words very well so they made them bigger.

Helvetica Movie Assignment

·      Where does Helvetica originate from? What Country?

Helvetica originates in Switzerland

·      What does the original name mean? What is the translation in English?

Helvetica was originally written in Latin and translates to the “Swiss typeface”

·      What year was Helvetica created?

1957

·      What is the design style that Helvetica brought to popularity worldwide?

It is a rational typeface. Clean and simple characteristics very legible.

·      List the names of 3 different design styles or design movements that are discussed in the film?

Some of the deign styles discussed in the film were modernism, post-modernism and the grunge.

·      Write about some of the insight about design you have taken away from the film. You can provide quotes if you like.

It is very interesting how much design is all around us everywhere we go. Before taking this class and watching the movie I just took it all for granted and didn’t even think about it. Now I recognize different fonts and graphic designs. Helvetica basically rules the world. It is the king which I think is pretty awesome.

 Lars Muller
         Lars Müller was born in Oslo in 1955, and although a Norwegian citizen, has been based in Switzerland since 1963.
After an apprenticeship as a graphic designer and some years as a peripatetic student in the United States and Holland, Lars Müller returned to Switzerland in 1982 and established his studio in Baden. Since 1996, he has been a partner of Integral Concept, an interdisciplinary design group active in Paris, Milan, Zürich, Berlin, and Montreal.



 Matthew Carter
"The most important typography designer of our time, MATTHEW CARTER (1937) is one of the few designers whose work is used by millions of people every day. Having devoted the first half of his career to typefaces for use in print, such as Miller and Bell Centennial, he then pioneered the design of fonts for use on screen, notably Verdana for Microsoft."

The worst quality format was the Gif restrictive file. As you can see its very pixled.
